Organization Description:

AVA Media is the leading media agency in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq with a TV Station, Radio Station, Sports division (AVA Sports). The agency broadcasts content focused on Kurdish culture and regional and international events.

AVA Media has redefined the role of broadcast journalism by transforming it into a public engagement and coordination platform capable of driving measurable social impact. The Chamchamal Flood Response stands as an innovative achievement in community mobilization, demonstrating how media can evolve from information provider to creating impact - driving measurable, accountable, and nationwide community action.

In December 2025, catastrophic flooding struck the Chamchamal area of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, AVA Media responded rapidly, transforming emergency reporting into nationwide public engagement and coordinated civic action. Through continuous prime-time coverage, and rapid mobilization across platforms, AVA Media initiated a national aid and fundraising response.

Community Engagement & Impact

Rather than limiting coverage to awareness, the campaign integrated real-time reporting with structured civic mobilization. Continuous prime-time broadcasts were paired with direct calls to action, verified donation pathways, and live accountability updates. Audiences were not treated as viewers, but as participants. Within days, this approach activated nationwide engagement, generating over USD 7.6 million in combined financial assistance, housing support, and humanitarian aid, and coordinating the delivery of 98 truckloads of relief.

Between December 9 and December 25, public engagement was tested and translated into action.

  • Over $7.6M USD worth of financial assistance and humanitarian aid was mobilized & delivered.
  • 98 truckloads of humanitarian aid were delivered
  • More than 3,560 families received direct support. Over 18,500 individuals benefited.
  • 20 new homes were purchased for families whose houses were destroyed. 14 houses completely renovated.
  • 155 shops were supported financially.

Media Social Responsibility

The initiative institutionalized social responsibility within the newsroom's operational model. Fundraising transparency, verified needs assessments, and sustained follow-up reporting ensured accountability at every stage - from public contribution to aid distribution. By embedding humanitarian coordination into editorial workflows, the campaign moved beyond symbolic participation and established a replicable framework where media serves as a bridge between affected communities, donors, institutions, and civil society actors.

Campaign Management

The response was managed as a structured, multi-phase campaign: immediate crisis coverage, national mobilization, coordinated aid collection, and sustained impact reporting. Cross-functional teams aligned editorial operations, digital engagement, field reporting, and logistics coordination. This integrated campaign structure allowed rapid scaling, reduced misinformation, and maintained public trust throughout the emergency period.

Audience Strategy

Across platforms, AVA Media's coverage reached hundreds of millions - transforming trust into collective action at national scale. With:

  • Facebook: ~1.1 billion reach
  • Instagram: ~642 million
  • TikTok: ~807 million
  • YouTube: ~ 5.1 million reach
  • Snapchat: ~ 45 million reach

The campaign leveraged cross-platform distribution - television, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat - to maximize reach and conversion. Performance was evaluated not only by impressions but by engagement-to-action metrics, including donation participation and volunteer mobilization.
